ICS CAREGIVING SERVICES WING GROUNDBREAKING
|
|
ICS Caregiving Wing groundbreaking took place on November 1, 2007. About 125 people bearing everything from
gold-colored ceremonial shovels and weathered garden spades to plastic toy
shovels turned over the desert soil to mark the start of construction on the
1,800-square-foot addition to ICS offices.
|
There were some
words from Ed Jenkins, President of the ICS Board of Directors; Pima County
District 1 Supervisor Ann Day; Father Mike Smith, Rector of Christ the King
Episcopal Church; Oro Valley Mayor Paul Loomis; and ICS Executive Director Bonnie Kampa. Interfaith blessings were
offered by Rev. Paul Caseman of St. Mark’s United
Methodist Church;
Rabbi Sam Cohon of Temple
Emanu-El; Father Liam
Leahy of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church; and Rev. Carla Williams of
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Afterwards,
everyone moved to the west side of the ICS offices, where the new building will
stand. There, Kristobal Fimbres, a
Pasqua Yaqui Indian and Director of the Native Images Foundation, conducted a
Sacred Land Blessing ceremony with the smell of smoldering sage in the air.
And then it was
time to put the shovels to work. Actual
construction is expected to begin in December, and the building should be
finished by next summer.
ICS thanks Northwest Medical
Center - Oro Valley
for providing refreshments and Saguaro Environmental Services for providing a
large tent used in the ceremony. If you want to continue supporting our building project you can buy a brick for our Garden of Caring. Click here to learn more.
