Training

Interfaith Community Services offers regular weekly, monthly and ongoing training opportunities to support our volunteers.

New Volunteer Training. At our training sessions, new volunteers learn the history and background of Interfaith Community Services, and the many programs and volunteer opportunities available at the center. Volunteers have the chance to select the volunteer position that is most meaningful to them.

Tips for successful volunteering are reviewed and include: how to manage stress and avoid burnout by setting healthy boundaries; being aware of signs that may indicate additional recipient needs; and knowing what to do in case of an emergency.

The new volunteer training is scheduled on a regular basis. Check out the Training section for current dates for training and contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@icstucson.org or 297-6049 to register.

Continuing Education

ICS offers periodic continuing education programs for our volunteers and the community. Past workshops have included:

  • The ABC′s of Care Giving - volunteers learned about the art of care giving, the roles and relationships of caregivers, and important coping techniques. We also educate caregivers about a wide range of available community resources.
  • The ABC′s of Aging - volunteers learned about what "aging" means and how to cope with the aging process.
  • Casa de La Luz "The Final Gift" Skit
  • Emergency Preparedness for volunteers
  • Congregation Emergency Preparedness

Mileage Reimbursement

Some mileage for volunteer ICS drivers is reimbursable at the federal business mileage rate of 48.5 cents per mile, up to 50 miles each round trip. This benefit is made possible by the Regional Transportation Authority′s program to help seniors in Pima County. It is available for volunteers transporting recipients to and from appointments, grocery shopping with recipients, and delivering Mobile Meals. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 297-6049 or volunteer@icstucson.org to register for this reimbursement program.

Volunteer Recognition

At our annual volunteer recognition event, we highlight and recognize the work of our awesome volunteers. At this event, we also recognize individuals who have been nominated for outstanding service to ICS and our recipients. Details of our next event will be posted here when they are available.
