Interfaith Community Services (ICS) is pleased to announce the return of its in-person fundraiser, “Rise – A Celebration of Empowered Women.” The breakfast event will be held on June 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel and Suites. Single Mom Scholars will share their personal stories of growth, community, and triumph through challenging times. Proceeds raised from the event will support ICS’ Single Mom Scholars program.

“The Single Mom Scholars program is a primary example of ICS’ mission to move families towards a life of financial stability, breaking the cycle of generational poverty,” says Tom McKinney, CEO of ICS.

Tiffany Nakatani, Founder and Creator of Love In A Cup Tea Blends and Boss Women Unite, is the featured guest speaker. Ms. Nakatani is a local Tucsonan and entrepreneur who created Boss Women Unite as a platform for local women to showcase their passion in the community with unity and support, inspiring women to their fullest potential. She also was raised by a single mother.

Since its inception, the Single Mom Scholars Program has taken a 2Generation approach to breaking the cycle of poverty. Through its comprehensive scholarship program, low-income single moms are empowered to earn a college degree and establish a career.

“The community I have found with Single Mom Scholars has helped me to persevere,” says Single Mom Scholar Auqae Grant. “I hope to encourage others and allow them to see how much this program has kept me focused and preparing for other successes and accomplishments in my life.”

Simultaneously, their children are given the opportunity to gain social capital, build leadership skills, and improve academic performance through partnerships forged with community organizations. Additionally, the unique aspect of the program is the social support network developed in the cohort and the value of shared experience.

Proceeds from Rise will support all aspects of the Single Mom Scholars Program: annual scholarships, mentoring and financial literacy workshops, laptops and computer repair, school supplies, AAA membership, auto repair services, dental care, youth enrichment support, family activities, and events.
