February-April

View or print the 2024 informational flyer HERE.

FREE tax preparation for households earning up to $79,000 annually.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, provides free tax preparation for individuals and families with low to moderate incomes. In addition to this free tax preparation assistance, participants receive help to determine their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit and ensure they get the full tax refund for which they qualify. Returns are electronically filed and most refunds are received in less than two weeks. This service is offered in person.

The program is coordinated by the United Way of Southern Arizona. IRS training is available and required for all volunteers helping with this program. The in-person program will be offered beginning February 7 and runs through April 15. All in-person return preparation is by walk-in only. First come first serve. Our tax preparation sessions will available on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Northwest Office (2820 W. Ina Rd).

This site also provides the options to visit GetYourRefund, DIY programs and Scheduling an appointment for in-person preparation. It also provides information on what taxpayer information is required.

Do your taxes online with VITA:

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) will again offer online support again this year.  VITA offers virtual tax support through Getyourrefund.org. United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona has teamed up with GetYourRefund.org/uwtsa to help you file your taxes online with the help of certified VITA volunteers.

How it works:

  1. Answer Questions
You’ll be asked a series of questions about your household
    and finances.
  2. Upload Your Tax Documents
Securely upload pictures of your tax documents, social
security card/ITIN, photo ID and picture of yourself
    holding your ID.
  3. Informational Interview
An IRS-certified volunteer will call to make sure that we
have everything we need to accurately prepare your tax
    return.
  4. Your Taxes Are Prepared
To ensure accuracy and give you the best refund
possible, each tax return goes through a quality review
process with a second IRS-certified volunteer.
  5. Final Review
Another IRS-certified volunteer will call to review your
final tax return information. After the call, you’ll be sent a
password-protected, electronic copy of your tax returns
to e-sign. With these signatures, we can E-File your
    Federal and State returns.
  6. Get Your Refund
After your returns are E-filed, all you have to do is wait for
your refund to arrive! If you have questions after filing, we
are available to help! Contact us at: Vita@UnitedWayTucson.org
