Tax Preparation Assistance

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak the VITA sessions have been canceled for the rest of April

We are sad to announce that the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) will be closed through the month of April. We want to the thank all the VITA volunteers who do such a wonderful job helping people in need with tax preparation. If you need help preparing your tax returns, please visit the VITA partner website, GetYourRefund.org, to get help virtually.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, provides free tax preparation for individuals and families with low to moderate incomes. In addition to this free tax preparation assistance, participants receive help to determine their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit and ensure they get the full tax refund for which they qualify. Returns can be electronically filed and most refunds are received in less than two weeks. This service is offered at our Main ICS Office at 2820 West Ina Road.

ICS participates as one of many sites throughout the Tucson area. The program is coordinated by the United Way of Southern Arizona. IRS training is available and required for all volunteers helping with this program. The program is offered from the end of January through April 15. Hours and days of services vary with the sites.

ICS is one of the most active VITA sites in Pima County helping more than 400 people a year with their taxes

The following documents are required for this service and should be brought to the VITA site:

  • Picture ID for taxpayer and spouse (if applicable)
  • Social Security cards for EACH family member
  • Proof of income including W2’s and 1099 forms
  • Documentation of deductible expenses
  • Account and routing numbers of checking and/or savings account(s) for direct deposits
  • Prior year’s tax return (if possible)
