Self-Sufficiency Programs
FREE tax preparation for households earning up to $66,000 annually.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, provides free tax preparation for individuals and families with low to moderate incomes. In addition to this free tax preparation assistance, participants receive help to determine their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit and ensure they get the full tax refund for which they qualify. Returns are electronically filed and most refunds are received in less than two weeks. This service is offered virtually.
The program is coordinated by the United Way of Southern Arizona. IRS training is available and required for all volunteers helping with this program. The in-person program will be offered beginning February 12. All in-person return preparation is by appointment only. Our tax preparation sessions will be on Saturdays from 9:00 to 1:00 and on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Northwest Office (2820 W. Ina Rd).
To sign up for an appointment go to the following internet link: www.unitedwaytucson.org/vita The site will begin taking appointments Monday, February 7th.
This site provides options to include GetYourRefund, DIY programs and Scheduling an appointment for in-person preparation. It also provides information on what taxpayer information is required and the COVID-19 policy which will be observed at all in-person sites.
